In Quest of Nitrogen Use-Efficient Rice Genotypes for Drought-Prone Rainfed Ecosystems

چکیده

Nitrogen (N) use efficiency in rainfed agriculture is generally low because of poor management and unavailability suitable rice genotypes. There a need to select genotypes with high N for these specific environments, which was investigated at the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute, Regional Station, Rajshahi, two successive years. The performance six genotypes, IR7437170-1-1, BR7873-5 * (NIL)-51-HR6, IR 83377-B-B-93-3, International Institute (IRRI) 123, IR83381-B-B-6-1, Binadhan-7, were tested under four rates (0, 55, 83, 110 kg ha −1 ) strip-plot design. Grain yields increased up 83 declined thereafter. Depending on rates, mean grain by 35–45% compared control (N 0 ). However, IRRI Binadhan-7 . uptake its efficiencies highest par those 123. (BRRI) dhan56 showed intermediate performance, while BRRI dhan57 IR83381-B-B-6-1 lower efficiencies. Between 16.5 19.2 required produce 1 ton paddy. IR83381-B-B-93-3 123 most efficient irrespective but IR87781-B-B-6-1 observed be inefficient intermediate. Thus, this study indicates test existing new germplasm optimal their NUE, especially environments where optimized resource essential higher farmers' income.

Drought Frontiers in Rice: Crop Improvement for Increased Rainfed Production

The success of the Green Revolution in closing the gap between world population and food production was principally achieved by increasing crop productivity in favorable areas. However, this success has been limited in the rainfed systems, which are prone to frequent droughts and other abiotic stresses. Worldwide, drought affects approximately 23 million hectares of rainfed rice. Varieties comb...
